Disaster Relief Fundraising Dinner Poster

March 1, 2012

Kababayan (Friends),

On December 17, 2011, a severe storm hit the southern part of the Philippines, causing extensive damage and loss of lives. Flash floods and landslides sent rain, mud, logs and trees, crashing down on the local people, killing more than 1,500. More than 338,000 people in 13 provinces were affected by the disaster, with more than 10,000 houses extensively damaged. Nearly 43,000 people are currently staying in emergency shelters, schools and churches. Many more remain missing and unaccounted for.

Although this tragedy occurred over 2 months ago, there is still an urgent need for help in terms of food, clothing, and medicines. The country's president has declared a state of national calamity and has ordered the respective government departments to extend all necessary assistance to the affected villages.

In this regard, the Filipino CommUNITY of New Brunswick (FCNB) will be holding a “Disaster Relief Fundraising Dinner” event at 5:00 PM on Saturday, April 14th at Grace Memorial Baptist Church (536 Northumberland Street, Fredericton, NB). This is in partnership with Multicultural Association of Fredericton (MCAF), Canadian Red Cross and Grace Memorial Church. We will serve authentic Filipino food for $12.00 per ticket in support of the event which can be purchased in advance or at the door depending on ticket availability. This will also highlight a presentation of affected areas, multicultural dance and music. In addition, we will be issuing taxable donations receipt for donations over $10.00 or more through the Canadian Red Cross.
